“But why am I so favoured, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, received insight into Mary’s pregnancy and the identity of the child. This visit strengthened the faith of both women in the love of God.
Many interpret this passage as granting Mary an exalted status and therefore seek her blessings and intercession. However, Scripture does not support this interpretation.
We submit to God so that we may be channels of His blessings to others and lead them to salvation.
