We get lost in our own spiritual state and good works as a sure ladder to heaven. We are called sheep by the Lord, for it cannot find its way back and needs help to return home.
In our sinful state, we completely merged our identity with darkness, and only ‘the light of the world’ can save. Neither our heritage nor our own efforts, but only faith in salvation through Lord Jesus, is the way.
He knocks on the door of our hearts, but we have to invite Him in, for He never forces anyone!
